Illustrating our own Christmas Card and Getting it Printed

I know I know, it’s super early but I have just finished our custom illustrated Christmas cards. I got them printed through I have wanted to start doing custom cards for ages so this Christmas I’m giving it a whirl.

It was a really fun project to do. I chose to create a little family portrait of me (and baby bump!), my husband and our cheaky tabby cat. I then drew a wreath with ‘Merry Christmas’ in it. Even though I think there are some real advantages to digitally drawn work, personally I love the feel of a real pen and watercolour.

Once I was done with the drawing I scanned it in and then tweaked it a bit in Photoshop. During this phase I decided to blank out my hand written text and create space for some nice type instead. I then used Adobe InDesign to put my card together, combining our family portrait, the text, the wreath and some nice background made of watercolour texture.

I am very pleased with the result and can’t wait for December when I can start sending these to all of our friends and family.

Let me know in the comments whether you use custom Christmas cards and if so what style you go for!

If you are interested in getting your very own custom card please get in touch and I would be happy to draw and design it for you and even give you a hand to choose the correct printing settings at your chosen printer. After my experience I would heartily recommend – their prices were very fair, though you can pick whomeever you wish.

*I am not affiliated in any way with – they just happened to be the site I chose to do my printing through.
